Brett Deyo To Promote Trio Of Modified Special
Events In 2010 - 'Super Summer Series' At Penn Can;
SuperNationals At Five Mile Point
BOYERTOWN, PA - Special events promoter
Brett Deyo will expand his schedule of dirt Modified
races next season.
Deyo, 26, of Boyertown, Pa., announced ambitious plans
for the 2010 season during Friday night's Penn Can (Pa.)
Speedway Awards Banquet, held at the Montdale (Pa.)
Country Club. Three special events at two different
venues are planned for next year.
Deyo has partnered with Penn Can Speedway co-promoters
Reed Miller and Al Wilcox for a pair of 'Super Summer
Series' midweek races at the Susquehanna, Pa., clay
oval.
The first event, dubbed the 'Clash at the Can' is set
for Tuesday night, June 8. The 60-lap
big-block/small-block Modified race will offer a $4,000
top prize plus a $1,000 bonus should the winning driver
take the $20 "Gambler's Fee" option.
The second race, assuming the 'Hot Summer Night'
moniker, is scheduled for Tuesday night, Aug. 10 with a
similar format: 60 laps, $4,000 to the winner plus an
additional $1,000 should the winner post the "Gambler's
Fee."
Both Modified events will be points-paying races on the
Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour, running under
RoC rules. The events will include fuel stops (if
necessary) for cars running methanol. Sail panels will
be permitted for 'Super Summer Series' RoC events.
Sponsorship support for both events is provided by Don's
Automotive Mall and Gary's U-Pull-It.
G&G Used Auto Parts of Carbondale, Pa., a
Tonkin family business, has signed on as a contributing
series sponsor.
Doug Borger's XCel 600 Modifieds will
serve as the under-card in the June 8 race. The support
division for Aug. 10 will be announced in the coming
weeks.
Point standings will be tabulated for the 'Super Summer
Series' races. The champion of the series will earn
$1,000 with contingency awards presented to others.
Drivers must attempt to qualify for both events to be
eligible for awards.
Contingency, product and lap sponsors are being sought
for the 'Super Summer Series' events. Interested parties
should contact Brett Deyo by phone at 845.728.2781 or
via e-mail:
Deyo99H@aol.com.
"I'm looking to make the 'Super Summer Series' events
special for racers and fans," Deyo said. "We
accomplished our goals last October at the Short Track
SuperNationals and I believe Penn Can is an ideal venue
for the type of programs we are looking to present. Reed
and Al have done a tremendous job with their Friday
shows and I'm looking to help them build up their summer
events."
Penn
Can's configuration allows for multiple engine
combinations to run together.
"Penn-Can is not a 'power track,' which is the perfect
scenario for special events," he said. "We welcome a
variety of engine combinations and are confident they'll
run competitively."
The
Penn-Can 'Super Summer Series' races have been scheduled
to maximize competitor participation.
"Over the past few weeks we have been looking over
schedules and speaking with other promoters to ensure
our special events will be free of conflicts," Deyo
said. "Penn Can is centrally located so fans should have
the opportunity to see all the best drivers New York,
New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware have to offer."
Miller and Wilcox can now put their attention to the
track's bread-and-butter weekly racing.
"We know the importance of having great special programs
at Penn Can," stated Penn Can co-promoter Miller. "With
Brett handling the summer specials, Al and I can
continue to concentrate on our Friday-night racing."
For the second consecutive year, Five Mile Point
Speedway in Kirkwood, N.Y., will be the host facility
for the Short Track SuperNationals on Columbus Day
weekend. The 2010 SuperNationals dates are
Friday-Saturday, Oct. 8-9.
A 50-lap big-block/small-block Modified feature will
headline the program, with a possible $5,000-plus up for
the winner. Tentatively, Pure Stocks, Four Cylinders and
Vintage Modifieds will fill out the program.
All racing will be held on Saturday (Oct. 9), while an
open practice session is planned for Friday evening
(Oct. 8).
SuperNationals Modifieds rules will be relaxed to
encourage participation from across the Northeast. Any
13- by 92-inch Modified tire will be allowed. Sail
panels will be permitted. The race will be open to big-
and small-block engine combinations running on gasoline
or methanol.
The '10 running of the SuperNationals will be the third
in the event's history. Kevin Hirthler of Boyertown,
Pa., won the most recent event at Five Mile Point
Speedway last October with a talent-laden field of 70
cars signing in for competition. Mike Ricci of
Rosendale, N.Y., defeated a 54-car field to post the
inaugural SuperNationals triumph at Afton (N.Y.)
Speedway in 2006.
"Last year's SuperNationals was an overwhelming
success," Deyo said. "We're looking to build off the
2009 event this October."
Drivers from across the Northeast have expressed their
enthusiasm for the 'Super Summer Series' and
SuperNationals events.
"These events fit the bill for what today's race fan is
looking for," said Windsor, N.Y.'s Brian Weaver, an
eight-time Penn Can point title winner and the reigning
Five Mile Point champion. "They want a mix of local
talent and touring stars going all out for some good
old-fashioned action for a price that reflects today's
economy.
"These are three 'must-see' events to put on everyone's
calendar."
Stewart Friesen, a two-time Utica-Rome (N.Y.) Speedway
champion and top-three finisher in the RoC Dart Dirt
Modified Tour standings for the past two seasons, is
looking to be a part of all three events.
"I'm
in," Friesen said upon hearing the news. "Any time we
have an opportunity to race for that type of money, I'm
excited to be a part of it."
Last
year's Short Track SuperNationals drew strong support
from the Pennsylvania contingent. Eight-time Grandview
(Pa.) Speedway NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
358-Modified champion Jeff Strunk was among those in
attendance and has already set his sights on the '09
races at Five Mile Point and Penn Can.
"I'll be there," said Strunk, who led the
SuperNationals only to be felled by a busted left-rear
hub. "I can't remember the last time I didn't finish a
race and still walked away with over $1,300 (the case in
the SuperNationals). The extra bonus money and
contingency awards go a long way."
Potential sponsors should contact Brett Deyo at:
845.728.2781 or
Deyo99H@aol.com.
Information on all three events will be publicized as it
becomes available on the web at:
www.bdmotorsportsmedia.com.
