SuperNationals Winner Hirthler In Line For Additional Cash At Five Mile Point Oct. 31 Southern Tier 100

KIRKWOOD, NY - When Kevin Hirthler streaked across the line first in the Short Track SuperNationals presented by Dart Machinery on Oct. 10 at Five Mile Point Speedway, he pocketed over $5,000 for his triumph in the 50-lap big-block/small-block Modified event.

But Hirthler isn't done padding his wallet just yet.

Through a bonus program sponsored by Dart Machinery linking the SuperNationals with the 40th running of the Southern Tier 100 at the Kirkwood, N.Y., oval on Oct. 31, Hirthler stands to collect even more cash.

Should Hirthler attempt to qualify for the Southern Tier 100 - the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour 2009 finale - he will receive a $500 cash bonus from Dart Machinery. If Hirthler can back up his SuperNationals score with a victory in the Southern Tier 100, the bonus increases to $1,000.

Hirther, a 29-year-old Grandview (Pa.) Speedway regular from Boyertown, Pa., has set plans to attend the Southern Tier 100 with his family-owned No. 117 in search of the extra loot.

"We'll be there," Hirthler confirmed. "I like the place (Five Mile Point). It's a small track, but I can't believe how wide it is. There's a lot of usable space on the track - a lot of room to operate, which makes for a good show."

If Hirthler can not complete the double, but a driver that was in attendance for the Short Track SuperNationals goes to Victory Lane following the Southern Tier 100, that driver will also receive a $500 bonus.

Racing begins at 5 p.m. on Oct. 31 at Five Mile Point. The winner of the 40th Southern Tier 100 will earn $5,555 and the '09 RoC Dart Dirt Modified Tour champion will be crowned.

The Short Track SuperNationals completed its second running on Oct. 10 with 70 Modifieds in attendance. Hirthler was the winner over Mike Ricci, Mike Gular, Sean Merkel and Joey Grammes. Other winners during the program were Harold Humphrey (Trackside Products RoC Pure Stock Series), Jeff Richardson (Vintage Modified) and Ken Underwood (Four Cylinder).

The first SuperNationals, run in 2006 at N.Y.'s Afton Speedway, saw Mike Ricci prevail over a 54-car field.

Plans are in place for the third edition of the Short Track SuperNationals, which will be run Oct. 8-9, 2010 at Five Mile Point Speedway.
