BINGHAMTON, NY - It was a near-perfect 2009 season for Chuck McKee.
The Middletown, N.Y., driver ended the year in a tie with Jerry Higbie Jr. for the big-block Modified championship at his hometown track, Orange County Fair Speedway, while netting the 358-Modified crown at the historic five-eighths-mile oval.
This weekend, McKee looks to create another memory in his '09 campaign with a victory in the Short Track SuperNationals presented by Dart Machinery at Five Mile Point Speedway.
This Saturday's (Oct. 10) program is headlined by a 50-lap big-block/small-block Modified event offering a $5,000-plus winner's share thanks to the 'Roll the Dice Challenge' presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings Inc.
McKee has confirmed he will be in the field with the No. 20 small-block Modified owned by Scott Ferrier, an Accord (N.Y.) Speedway regular from Bloomingburg, N.Y.
"Scott has offered me the car for the night," said McKee, who hasn't turned a lap at Five Mile Point in several years. "I know he's got good equipment. I haven't been there (to Five Mile Point) in a while, but the last time I ran there (in the Plum Crazy Racing No. 265) I ended up sixth."
McKee plans to attend Friday for the scheduled open practice session to get re-acclimated to the Kirkwood, N.Y., oval.
The five-time OCFS big-block champion and winner of the 2000 Eastern States 200 is an eligible starter in the Trackside Products All-Star Clash, open to champions from Accord, Big Diamond (Pa.), Five Mile Point, Grandview (Pa.), Penn-Can (Pa.), Orange County, Utica-Rome (N.Y.) Speedway and Woodhull (N.Y.) Speedway.
The 6 1/2-lap race offers a $600 top prize and ALL participants will be paid.
A star-studded field of Modifieds is set to jam the Five Mile Point pit area for the SuperNationals event on Saturday. Expected to compete are Brian Weaver, Mitch Gibbs, Keith Hoffman, Bobby Varin, Kevin Hirthler, Billy Pauch Sr. & Jr., Jeff Strunk, Jim Gabriel Jr., Dave Camara, Mike Gular, Meme DeSantis and many more.
A complete early entry list is available on the web at: www.bdmotorsportsmedia.com. Registration for the event is ongoing.
Joining the Modifieds on the Oct. 10 Short Track SuperNationals program are Trackside Products RoC Pure Stocks, Four Cylinders and Vintage Modifieds.
Grandstand admission bought individually for Adults is set at $18; Senior (62 & over) & Youth (13-17) tickets are $14; Kids 12 and under are FREE.
Thanks to a 'Family Five Pack' promotion, for just $40, a family will receive two Adult tickets, three Senior/Student tickets, five hot dogs and five sodas.
On Saturday afternoon (Oct. 10), pit gates will open at 2 p.m., with grandstand gates opening at 3 p.m.
At 4 p.m., hot laps for the Trackside Products RoC Dart Pure Stocks, Vintage Modifieds and Four Cylinders will hit the track. Their qualifying events will begin at 4:45 p.m.
Modified hot laps have been set for 5:45 p.m. with the division's first heat expected to hit the quarter-mile oval at 6:30 p.m.
Race fans wishing to see only a full Modified program with main events for the support divisions should plan to arrive for the 6:30 p.m. start time.
Due to the high number of outsiders and first-time competitors expected for the SuperNationals, a Friday-night open practice session has been added beginning at 6 p.m. for Oct. 9. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. The practice will run for three hours, with on-track activity curtailing at 9 p.m. Pit admission for practice will be $20. The grandstands will be open to the public free of charge.
All pricing information, rules and a complete order of events has been posted at: www.bdmotorsportsmedia.com.
