Motorsports Accomplishments

  • October 2011 - The Short Track SuperNationals at Five Mile Point Speedway draws an astounding 79-car field of Modifieds - the highest single-day car count in dirt Modified racing for the season. Duane Howard earns the victory in Mike Petruska's No. 66.
    July 2011 -
    The Race of Champions returns to Big Diamond (Pa.) Speedway for a Deyo/Race of Champions co-promoted 'Anthracite Assault' event. The show draws a large crowd and 39 Modifieds.

    The Penn Can (Pa.) Speedway's Clash at the Can pays a track record $8,000 to the winner and attracts a field of 66 big-block/small-block Modifieds under a Race of Champions sanction.  The turnout is the highest in a Modified midweek event at any track all season. Billy Decker picks up the victory.
    January 2011 -
    The Eastern Motorsport Press Association (EMPA) names Deyo the Frank Blunk Memorial Writer of the Year for the second time recognizing excellence in motorsports journalism.
    December 2010 -
    Big Diamond Speedway owners Fritz and Krista Roehrig hire Deyo to handle PR and announcing for the 2011 season.
    October 2010 -
    The third edition of the Short Track SuperNationals presented by Dart Machinery sets a new record of 72 Modifieds and 141 total race cars on Oct. 9. Justin Holland, a Modified upstart, takes a $6,650 victory. More than $8,000 in bonus money is distributed to racers.
    August 2010 - Penn Can Speedway's first 'Super Summer Series' concludes with Duane Howard and Stewart Friesen tying for the two-race championship. Howard (June 8) and Friesen with a last-lap pass (Aug. 10) are the event winners. Large crowds witness both events, which feature diverse and talented fields.
    December 2009 - Deyo teams with Penn Can Speedway promoters Al Wilcox and Reed Miller to promote a two-race 'Super Summer Series' featuring Modifieds on June 8 and Aug.10.
  • October 2009 - The Short Track SuperNationals draws a capacity crowd and star-studded field of 70 Modifieds to Five Mile Point Speedway. Kevin Hirthler takes the 50-lap Modified win.
  • June 2009 - Deyo moves to the announcer's booth at Big Diamond Raceway, replacing Mark Garman.
  • April 2009 - Deyo announces the return of the Short Track SuperNationals to be run at Five Mile Point (N.Y.) Speedway Oct. 10.
  • February 2009 - Promoter Bob Miller publicizes his plans to transition the Reading Racing Reunion & Car Show to Deyo for its 25th Anniversary in 2010. Deyo begins work on the first Penn National (Pa.) Speedway Reunion to be held at the 2010 show. Deyo also takes on a partnership role with Miller on the Dirt Track Heroes Show held in Phillipsburg, N.J.
  • January 2009 - Deyo teams with Pioneer Pole Buildings Inc. and Alpine Building & Post Supply to create a "motorsports Friday" section in the sports section of the Reading Eagle, featuring local racers and tracks for 39 weeks during the season.
  • March 2008 - Deyo returns local auto racing to the pages of the Reading Eagle regularly after a decade's absence.
  • May 2007 - Deyo is named announcer for Micro-Sprint and Slingshot weekly racing at The Kutztown (Pa.) Fairgrounds Speedway.
  • January 2007 - The Eastern Motorsport Press Association (EMPA) presents Deyo with the prestigious Frank Blunk Memorial Award recognizing excellence in motorsports journalism.
  • October 2006 - Partnering with Afton (N.Y.) Speedway promoter Pat Jordan, Deyo promotes the first-ever Short Track SuperNationals. The event, run head-to-head with Super DIRT Week, draws 54 Modifieds and a total of 220 race cars.
  • June 2006 - Area Auto Racing News publisher Lenny Sammons names Deyo assistant editor, a position held through July 2008.
  • March 2006 - Deyo receives the Dedication to Racing Award from the Middletown Motorsports Show at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Middletown, N.Y.
  • January 2006 - Penn-Can Speedway promoters Reed Miller & Al Wilcox present Deyo with a Contribution to Area Motorsports Award.
  • July 2005 - Deyo is first published the the pages of Dick Berggren's Speedway Illustrated magazine, a national publication, and remains a contributor.
  • April 2005-October 2006 - Deyo works alongside Andrew Harpell in the inaugural two seasons of the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified and Sportsman Tours. Handles media relations/publicity, race-night registration & handicapping and assists regular track announcers at RoC events.
  • April 1999-October 2006 - Serves in various capacities at Accord (N.Y.) Speedway for promoters Dave Flach (1999 & 2000) and Gary Palmer (2001-2006). Positions held include announcer, publicist, handicapper and scorer.
  • June 2004 - Deyo is promoted from race results writer to columnist in Area Auto Racing News.
  • May 2004-October 2006 - Deyo joins the staff of Five Mile Point Speedway in an announcer and publicist capacity.
  • January 2003-May 2004 - Deyo works for dirt Modified legend Carl Van Horn at Lake Moc-A-Tek (Pa.) Speedway as the track's publicist, handling press releases, advertising and program book copy. The track ceases operation in May 2004 due to a township environmental ordinance. Deyo receives what would be the final Staff Service Award at the track's 2003 Awards Banquet. 
  • July 2003 - Deyo organizes the Ed Strada Sr. Memorial Race for 358-Modifieds at Lake Moc-A-Tek Speedway by raising additional purse and lap money. Ed Strada Jr. wins and earns over $2,200 - more than double the track's typical $1,000 winner's share.
  • April 2002-October 2002 - Orange County (N.Y.) Fair Speedway hires Deyo as an official. Serves as track handicapper for 2002 season.
  • April 1999-October 2001 - Deyo works on the Kauneonga Speedway staff as handicapper and track publicist.
  • June 1998 - Deyo pens first race-results story for Area Auto Racing News, covering Kauneonga Speedway, a paved quarter-mile track in White Lake, N.Y.
